This week is a good time to remember the scientifically proven benefits of gratitude! One of the reasons clients come to life coaching is their desire to focus on what is already working well, to build on their resources and strengths and to shift into a more creative mindset.
Psychologist Robert Emmons from UC Davis shares what he has learned from over 10 years of studying gratitude in his book, Thanks, How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier. In his book, he shows how simple gratitude practices can increase our happiness by 25%, more than circumstantial (like having more money or getting a new job) changes can. He defines gratitude: “To say we feel grateful is not to say that everything in our lives is necessarily great. It just means we are aware of our blessings.” Dr. Emmons’ research shows that those who practice gratitude tend to be more creative, recover more quickly from adversity, have a stronger immune system and stronger social relationships than those who don’t practice gratitude.
Focusing on what you already have will give you the foundation for improving your life and relationships. It is a practice that helps you to be more mindful and aware in your daily life, which has additional benefits. So, don’t just reach for turkey and pie tomorrow, reach for more happiness through gratitude too!
Thankyou for posting! Yes reflect what you are grateful in your life for! Thank God for your many blessings! :)
